EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES AND DIVERSITY
It is important to the Muthesius Kunsthochschule to create an atmosphere in which the diversity of all members of the university is encouraged and perceived as an enrichment. The Commission for Equal Opportunities and Diversity is committed to equal chances for all applicants, students, employees and teachers. It is therefore essential that the work of the commission is firmly anchored in the structure of the university in order to guarantee these values. They offer independent advice to all university members and are dedicated to the implementation of various projects. In addition, they are one of the first contact points for complaints within the „Antidiskriminierungsrichtlinie„.
The Equal Opportunities Commission
The Equal Opportunities Commission of the Muthesius Kunsthochschule is composed of the Equal Opportunities Officer, their representative and the student employees who support them, who are elected by the Senate. In close cooperation with the diversity officer, the commission represents the interests of equal opportunities, collects problematic questions, acts as an advice center for all university members and develops specific solutions.
The topic of equality runs through all areas of the university: university administration, personnel development, research, teaching and studies. The Equal Opportunities Commission is thus a cross-divisional body that helps shape the university in matters of equal opportunities at any time and anywhere.
The aim of gender equality work is to actually enforce equality and equal opportunities for all genders. A combination of structural and individual factors is responsible for the still existing gender imbalance in management positions, and the university endeavors to dismantle the existing gender-specific barriers. The Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design would like to actively counteract gender-specific stereotypes that still influence and shape society, especially women, when choosing a career. The majority of the students at the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design are female, which is why we feel particularly responsible here to give support and to pave the best possible path into a career.
Raising children while studying is a demanding task for everyone involved. The Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design is aware that students, especially single parents, have multiple burdens. The university promotes all framework conditions for the compatibility of parenthood and studies or work.
The Equal Opportunities Commission acts as a confidential contact person for all questions relating to equal opportunities at the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design.

The diversity officer
The Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design aims to be a good place for everyone to learn, teach and work. To this end, we want to promote the visibility of diversity, participation and equal opportunities – regardless of the different ascribed or self-defined identities of all members.
As the spokesperson elected by the Senate, the diversity officer represents the interests of equal opportunities. It is committed to preventing discrimination based on gender or sexuality, (social) origin, racist motives, religion, disability, appearance, age, or any overlap between these categories, and to create a discrimination-sensitive environment for all university members.
In order to make social developments also visible at the university, she organizes events, networks with representatives from other universities, and works on various projects.
